Heritage Crafts, the national charity for heritage craft skills, announced 35 new training bursaries on 11 September 2026, each worth up to £4,000. Three of them go to people training in furniture making and upholstery.
The furniture and upholstery awards
- David Bimudu Scott, Brighton: tuition and essential hand tools for the second year of a Level 3 Fine Furniture Making programme, funded by the City and Guilds Foundation.
- Nancy Johnston, Kingston upon Thames: the first year of the AMUSF Diploma at Shoreditch Design Rooms, covering traditional springing, stuffing and stitching, funded by the Royal British Legion.
- Lisa Lloyd, Oxfordshire: the 12 Steps to Upholstery Success programme at the Oxford School of Upholstery, with specialist short courses in leather upholstery, funded by the Dulverton Trust.
The bursaries are funded by the Capri Holdings Corporate Foundation, the Dulverton Trust, the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation, the City and Guilds Foundation, the Ashley Family Foundation, the Royal British Legion, the Newby Trust, Soane Britain and Malcolm and Rosalind Gammie.
