Trainee Field Technician / Template Maker - Furniture Templating and Measuring

Our client is a well-established national company with over 50 years of trading and an industry-leading name in made-to-measure furniture covers. They are recruiting a Trainee Field Technician, also known as a Template Maker, Templater, Pattern Maker or Furniture Measuring Technician, to cover Reading and Basingstoke, making furniture templates and taking measurements in customers' homes for their expert team of loose cover makers. Area covered: Reading, Basingstoke, Newbury, Wokingham, Bracknell and Andover. Appointments are booked within a geographical area around Reading (RG1 1AF), so you are driving locally between customers' homes in a company vehicle rather than commuting to a factory. No furniture templating or pattern-making experience is needed because full training is provided. Experience in upholstery, loose cover making, curtain making, soft furnishings, sewing, tailoring, carpet or blind fitting, furniture delivery or any other practical, customer-facing trade is an advantage, and transferable skills from a hands-on background are genuinely welcome. This is a full-time, permanent, field-based role. What you'll be doing - Visiting customers in their own homes across Reading, Basingstoke, Newbury, Wokingham, Bracknell and Andover to template and measure sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and other upholstered furniture - Taking accurate measurements and making templates, recording the information clearly using the methodical templating system you will be trained in - Representing the business professionally and delivering excellent customer service in every home you visit - Driving between pre-booked appointments set within your geographical area What we're looking for - A full, clean UK driving licence (essential) - Comfortable driving between appointments and happy working alone in customers' homes - Practical and hands-on, with a keen eye for detail, accuracy and measurement - Good customer service skills, a tidy appearance and a professional manner - Based in or within easy reach of Reading What's on offer - £15.00 per hour, £30,420 per year based on a standard 39-hour week, Monday to Friday - Full training provided, no previous templating experience required - Company vehicle, phone, tablet and all tools and equipment provided - 24 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and company pension If you live around Reading, hold a full clean driving licence and want a secure, well-supported field-based trainee role with full training and a company van, whether you are currently an upholsterer, curtain maker, fitter, driver or simply practical and good with people, we would like to hear from you.
