Development Upholsterer / Sample Upholsterer - New Product Development, Contract Furniture

An established West Midlands designer and manufacturer of commercial and contract furniture is looking for a Development Upholsterer to join its team in Brierley Hill, Dudley (DY5). This is the upholsterer who works on what comes next: helping to create new products and the patterns for them, and getting them ready for production. The company designs and makes its furniture in its own UK factory, including soft seating, sofas, booths and banquette seating for offices, universities, hospitals, restaurants and reception areas. The factory is not track based: most projects are completed from start to finish, with a sewing team, a foam preparation team and an upholstery team working together. It suits an experienced Upholsterer, Development Upholsterer, Sample Upholsterer, Prototype Upholsterer or Pattern Cutter who enjoys working out how a new piece of upholstered furniture goes together, not only repeating it. The role - Upholstering new and prototype pieces of commercial and contract seating from start to finish - Helping to create new products and bring new designs to life - Developing the patterns for new products and getting them ready for production - Working closely with the in-house sewing, foam preparation and upholstery teams What you will need - Strong hands-on upholstery experience, ideally including development, sample or prototype work - Experience of making or developing patterns for upholstered furniture - The ability to work out the best way to upholster a new design and set it up for the production upholsterers - A keen eye for detail and a positive, can-do attitude What is on offer - An hourly rate above the company's standard upholsterer rate of £16.02 to £16.56, depending on experience - Full-time, permanent position - All tools and uniform provided - Company pension - Health and wellbeing programme - Company events - On-site parking - A pleasant factory to work in, with a staff area to relax, eat and watch TV during breaks - A flexible employer that genuinely looks after its team, and a Real Living Wage employer If you are a Development Upholsterer, Sample Upholsterer or experienced Upholsterer and pattern maker in Dudley, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge, Halesowen, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Kidderminster or Birmingham, we would love to hear from you.
