Senior Upholsterer
Yorkshire Dales (Settle area), North Yorkshire, BD24 · Confidential employer
£36,400 – £42,640 a year

An exciting opportunity for a highly skilled upholsterer to join a growing, independent workshop in the Yorkshire Dales that makes high-end sofas and chairs by hand, entirely from natural materials. The business builds its own range from the frame up, re-upholsters customers' pieces to the same standard, and is now expanding into more bespoke upholstery. This is a genuine craft role for an upholsterer who takes real pride in their work.

Commutable from Skipton, Clitheroe, Lancaster, Kendal, Colne and Burnley.

The role

Upholstering new sofas and chairs from bare frame to finished piece

Cutting and sewing your own covers

Re-upholstery of customers' furniture, both traditional and modern

Traditional upholstery techniques, including hand-tied springs, using natural fillings and materials

Adapting existing designs and building larger bespoke pieces, such as corner sofas, from frame to finish

Working independently to a very high standard of finish. "Senior" here means a top-level craftsperson, not a team leader

What we are looking for

An experienced upholsterer who can take a piece all the way through from frame to finish

Confident cutting and machine sewing covers

Traditional upholstery experience (hand-tied springs, natural fillings, hand-stitched edges) is a strong advantage, alongside modern upholstery

Excellent hand skills and real attention to detail

A record of staying with employers for a good length of time; this is a long-term role in a small, skilled team

Living within about an hour's drive, or willing to relocate to North Yorkshire for the right role

What is on offer

Up to £20.50 per hour depending on experience (around £42,600 a year on a 40-hour week)

Overtime available

38 to 40 hours a week, which can be worked over four days

Flexible hours within workshop opening times of 6am to 6pm

Permanent, employed position with a workplace pension

Free on-site parking, close to the railway station

Paid trial day in the workshop before any offer

The chance to do high-end, natural upholstery in a business that values craftsmanship over volume
